Tidepools

It is no secret that my brain pines for yesteryears that I cannot actually know about. My heart wants to live somewhere in the 18th century, though with comfort. There is no surprise that I feel completely comfortable living in our RV and I haven't missed our extra 2800 sq. feet for a minute. But our RV comes with Internet and phone connections that allows me to be connected to a much larger world when I want to be and be surrounded by my three favorite people for the majority of the time. My parents just left and are currently landing back in Colorado after a 9 day trip which allowed this RV to feel even more like home than it has. We had family dinners, play time, school and a home base for our adventures while my parents stayed in a hotel near by and allowed our kiddos to have their favorite adults all to themselves for a couple of day. With visitors, comes a lot of exploration and we were able to visit the Birch Aquarium, play at Legoland, visit the USS Midway, the San Salvador, take a tour through Old Town and have interactive demonstrations of old school houses and black smith shops. We played baseball, visited Coronado and the boys played with boogy boards and surfboards. We went on a Duck Tour (or SEAL tour...whatever they are named), a fire museum, train museum, visited the Cabrillo National Monument and visited the tide pools.

Tidepools are THE thing to do if you have an afternoon with Oliver. He loves to look at the crabs, pick up the crabs, find the limpets, create habitats, and poke at anemones. He spends hours hopping from one hole to another and is sad the instant you say it is time to go. Oliver could stare into these tiny worlds for hours and never become bored by the small creatures that make these holes "home" between tides.

While staring down, I couldn't help but think that this is the way we are choosing to live at the moment. We have plunked ourselves down in Santee which will forever feel like a corner of our "home." We know the stores, the trails, the parks. We come here for quiet and comfort and seek it out after finding adventures elsewhere. Next Friday we will pack our "shell" and move on towards the North to Huntington Beach and beyond and each place we will relate to as "home" because that is where we have each other.
