It's A Small World

A couple of weeks ago we brought family from CO and friends from AZ to a beach in CA. We got to watch our boys RUN down a boardwalk to embrace their friends-since-birth. We watched their faces smile and laugh and chatter and laugh as the adults did the same and we all breathed in the sea. The fact that my parents, sister and brother in law were coming only intensified the happiness and the excitement of what was to be a superb weekend. The cherry on the top was that we were headed to Disneyland!!

Disneyland was a complete hit. I’ve written before on what a great thing that park has going on. The place is clean, lines move quickly, everybody is smiling and it just may be the Happiest Place on Earth. Watching the kids get a thrill out of the rides is fun. Watching them choose who to ride with is heart warming. These four kiddos had eight adults who they all feel comfortable with. They would grab a hand and say, “take me!” and we would. They would ride next to each other and their eyes would reflect the excitement in their independence and the thrill of it all. They wanted to ride it all, play it all, see it all. Walking around the park and circling back never had them complaining as it was just so exciting ALL DAY LONG! The day ended with a bonfire on the beach as we all layed around and enjoyed the sound of the waves and the various groups of laughter from all who surrounded us.

Sunday was spent parked on the beach. The wind blew in the sunshine and gusts for kites to fly on. Freeze Tag was a never ending game, shells were collected, studied and tucked away and friends came to join us on the beach as we wandered around for lunch, ice cream and drinks. The entire weekend had a party like atmosphere as our friends and their kiddos bunked with us in the ol’ trailer and we had sleeping bags and toys and coffee cups all around. The campground itself was a parking lot (literally. The campground is closed in the summer so cars can park), but a happy one. There were tables of food, corn hole sets, music, dogs, and chatter. The parking lot is on the beach, so the waves and wind and smell of the sea was all there and added to the experience.

These are the moments when you look around and think, Really? Is this life? It feels just like a vacation and looking at our friends and family who made the trek over thousands of miles, it is vacation, and sometimes I just can’t get enough of this good feeling because it is home, but on a beach, and I just can’t wrap my head around how this is all working out like a dream.
