Dominican Republic

Our month long trips we take with my parents are hard to describe. For a month all activity pauses besides spending time with one another. We visit, we chat, and when we run out of things to say, we say some more. We find hammocks, we find beaches, we find books, games, and places to curl up. We go for walks and runs and my dad tells stories that last for hours to the boys. I put together this short little video to capture the feeling and I think it does a pretty good job!

Las Terrenas is where we have found ourselves three times now. The town is nice, the people are great and the beaches are beautiful. We rent a home on two acres at the end of a private beach that has two buildings on it and a pool. It's hard to think if there could be a more perfect setting.

This year we found ourselves ziplining, snorkeling, checking out the local medical facilities, chasing some intruders out of the house, eating, getting massages and pedicures, and teaching the boys the joys of Black Jack. We took our house manager out for dinner one night so we could learn a little more about what it's like to be a local. She is from Switzerland and has traveled all over before claiming Las Terrenas as her home eight years ago. It's easy to see what she fell in love with. Though petty crime happens, the place feels safe enough for single women to enjoy their meandering runs along back roads which is just about the best way to prepare for a dip in the pool!

It will be fun to go back in a couple of years to see how things are different and what is the same. One constant will be this group. These people, they hold my heart.
